When Shelly, a terrier mix about 3 years of age, was brought into the shelter in South Carolina she was, quite simply, a mess! This small neglected girl had eyes that were all crusty from infection and her nails were severely overgrown. Worst of all, she was suffering from Sarcoptic Mange, (a skin disease caused by mites), generating quite a bit of itching and scratching. As in her case, often this develops into scabs, open sores, and quite a bit of hair loss. Requiring antibiotics, antiparasitic medications, and topical baths, Sarcoptic Mange takes a while to treat. Nevertheless, this timid sweetheart blossomed into a happy, healthy, beautiful girl. Adopted by a loving family this girl, now named Colette…so elegant…is living a new fulfilling life!
