Misty was surrendered to a high-kill shelter in South Carolina. Pitiful and completely emaciated, Misty had been starving herself while still caring as conscientiously as she could for her THIRTEEN 4 week old babies. Sadly we are actually grateful for this surrender because otherwise, she and they could have just been left to starve a slow and painful death.
Thanks to A New Chance Animal Rescue volunteers, within a day or two, this exhausted young momma was on her way to one of our North Carolina colleagues where she caught her ride to New York within a few days. The transportation this time wasn’t just another uncomfortable ride in a car to another piece of dirt with a barn over it. No… this time she was on her way to an absolutely loving, wonderful foster home!
It was remarkable as if sweet Misty finally knew that she had, not just help, but competent help, taking care of her pups and understood that someone else would help guide, protect, nourish, and manage them. Filled with love and tenderness, the foster mom took over and Misty finally … finally … did the most amazing thing. She rested!!!
Once and for all, this sweet and dedicated momma napped in the sunlight; snuggled on a cozy bed, and she ate … and she ate … and ate …… nourishing her own ravished body and spirit.
Misty gained 23 much-needed pounds in her foster home and her babies flourished. When they were ready, all found their precious, loving, permanent homes, as did Misty, who never has to worry about being pregnant and on her own again.
