JoJo came into one of the humane societies we work with in South Carolina with her three siblings and their mother, Bella. All of them had sarcoptic mange, which is highly contagious to other animals, and their mother was heartworm positive. We knew this was a death sentence for this family because no rescue would be willing to isolate these dogs to treat them and to cover the cost of the treatment. To top it all off, JoJo and her siblings were extremely under-socialized and afraid of people, and their mother was a little selective with other dogs.
The scramble to save this family began and ultimately we were successful. It took a while to get all of JoJo’s siblings socialized and trusting of people, but JoJo was the most challenging of them all. Once her skin was healed and she had been cleared by our vet to be moved up to her foster home in NY, her foster family was able to work even more with her on this. Eventually, a fabulous and understanding couple applied for her with a fabulous doggie companion for JoJo to look up to, and the rest is history!
