Fluffy was voluntarily surrendered to animal control at a kill shelter in West Virginia after much convincing. She was born into a hoarding situation with many other Beagles and Spaniel mixes, and she was surrendered with 34 other dogs.
We participated in a multi-group rescue effort to move these dogs immediately out of the tiny, 25-kennel county shelter. They only had two full time and one part-time staff members and needed the dogs out quickly, so two ANCAR volunteers got up very early in the morning two days after the dogs came in and drove the seven hours each way to the shelter to make sure they got there after they opened and were back in NY before our vet closed for the day.
After Fluffy completed her quarantine period at our vet’s office, she was spayed and moved to her foster home. Once she was in her foster home she was able to begin learning how to properly live in a home. Although she had come from a home, no one had taught Fluffy proper house manners, and she was very fearful of new things. Her amazing foster family showed her that the kitchen table was for laying under and hoping to catch some crumbs and not for jumping up on top of.
Once Fluffy was ready for her forever home, she went up for adoption. An amazing couple with another dog applied for Fluffy was approved and ended up giving her an amazing forever home. We have only heard great updates about Fluffy’s new life!
