This sweet girl is Abby, a 14-year-old Golden Retriever mix we rescued from a kill shelter. She has spent her entire life living on the streets. As you can see from her x-ray, she has five bullets inside of her. This poor girl has clearly never known love, and we are determined to give her a life of love and comfort for however long she has left.
When we pulled her from the shelter, she was diagnosed with sarcoptic mange, mammary tumors, and heartworm-positive. She was severely underweight and had pressure sores all over her body from laying on the pavement and not being able to get back up again. She wasn’t given long to live, but we were determined to make her time left here as happy as possible.
Abby has been with us for about eight months now, and her foster family treasures every moment with her. As you can see from the photos, her skin has been treated, her coat has grown in beautifully, and she has put on a ton of weight in her foster home. Best of all, she’s truly happy for probably the first time in her life. Her foster mom said Abby smiles and runs over to greet her when she walks in the door. She is truly a special girl, and she will continue to be lavished on in her foster home.
ANCAR’s Oldies, but Goodies program provides end-of-life care to senior dogs who have been carelessly tossed out into the streets and ensures that they know love and not pain or suffering for the remainder of their time with us. This program is entirely funded by donations because these dogs remain under our care as hospice fosters.
