Jazzy’s Tale April 19, 2012 From the day she came, Jazzy has been sweet, sweet, sweet and by the time she was adopted at 5 months and 33 lbs., this precious Collie/Shepherd mix was a dream come true, perfection at it’s best. In her foster home, Jazzy was quickly housebroken and taught her basic commands, including walking beautifully on the leash. With her great temperament, our dream for Jazzy, who loves to give licks and kisses to all people, especially when they pet her so she can flop over for belly rubs, was to be in a home where love was a constant; where ideally she could have a canine buddy, because she loves every dog she meets; and where she could spend time outside. Well, Jazzy did get “a new chance,” and a great one at that. She is now in her forever home where she gets to play with a new big brother (Lakota) and goes to the park all the time. Here’s an excerpt from e-mails sent by her new mom… “Hi… I just wanted to…let you know that (Jazzy, now Khaleesi) is doing great and getting along very well with her new big brother Click here to watch a video of Jazzy. Oliver’s Tale March 21, 2012 Oliver, an absolutely gorgeous and very big, lumbering Golden/Great Pyrenees mix puppy came to us as a real sweetheart for sure, but definitely needing socialization. Gentle and sweet, he got along with everyone. As he settled into his foster home, however, he also learned how to play and enjoy life, especially as he was loved by his people and shown the ropes from the other dogs in his foster home. Crate trained, mostly housebroken, walking well on the leash, and learning sit and come, this authentically great guy, who had a rough start in life, needed and deserved a stable home. And lucky for him, he was given it by a wonderful and very loving family with two teenage boys (and a dog) who were all instantly in love. Oliver is now living in enduring bliss, knowing that his memories of happiness are forever. Thank you so much to Oliver’s family for giving him ”a new chance.” Chuckles’ Tale Chuckles, who got his name from his hilarious personality and smiling face, is a 4 – 5 month old, 11 lb., rat terrier/doxie mix. In his foster home, this baby was often found sleeping somewhere soft and cuddly, with a big smile; pick him up and he nibbled your ear; or just sit and watch him and he entertained as he did the funniest things. The one thing he was missing though, was a place he knew he could stay forever, home. This lucky guy, is now happily living in NYC with a human sister and parents and knows he won’t have to find yet another new place to relax. He, and we, thank his new family for giving him “a new chance” for a stable, predictable and happy life! Jack’s Tale March 17, 2012 Jack, a 2 year old, Parson Terrier Mix is a real sweetheart. He is very quiet at home, is a real people dog and loves to bury his head in your arm while you hold and pet him. This guy is housebroken walks well on the leash, and loves going outside to play. And now he has been adopted to such a loving family, where he is often found sleeping on mom’s pillow, cuddled on the couch, walking with a family member, or visiting with other dogs. Thank you to Jack’s family for giving him “a new chance” at love and all the joy that brings to him! You’re great! Moses’ Tale March 9, 2012 Moses, a 2 year old, 19 lb., Min Pin/Doxie mix, is a real hoot. Pet him and he just leans into you, sometimes falling asleep as you pet him. Moses loves everyone he meets, will crawl into any open lap, and is a total people dog. A bit of a shy guy who has been just starving for affection and waiting for special people he could call his own, Moses really wanted to settle down. Well, the wait was worth it. He is now happy in the laps of his quiet and gentle family, experiencing bliss with “a new chance” at the happy life. Bandit’s Tale March 7, 2012 Bandit, a 7-8 month old, Collie/St. Bernard mix loves being outside. He is full of life, likes room to run and his definite preference is to be playing with people or other dogs. A gorgeous, unique looking sweetheart, he is a blast to have around and needed a special someone who has time for him. This lucky guy is now living with his new canine sibling and Mom and gets to run around on the farm all day. It turns out, he’s also great with horses. Thank you so much to Bandit’s Mom for falling in love and giving him “a new chance” for a great and carefree life. He deserves it! Lane’s Tale Lane, a male, 12 lb., Westie/Cairn terrier mix, about 2-3 years old is a real angel. Crate trained and housebroken, he loves people and touches base frequently by coming and making contact with you. He doesn’t jump, just looks, hoping for the pets which he just leans right into when they come. Lane, has just been hungry to finally settle down and be loved forever and very happily, he now has what he has so been wanting…”a new chance” and a permanent home! This guy has always deserved the very best, and now he has it! Juliette’s Tale Juliette, an 8 month old, Coonhound mix likes to grab your hand as you walk by so that you’ll give her some loving. With a beautiful face and a great disposition, she is playful and friendly. This very happy dog, has a tail that is always wagging, whether she’s in the crate, drinking her water, eating or outside sniffing and playing. Learning her manners had been top on the agenda for Juliette who is so smart, she did a fabulous job learning heel, sit, down, housebreaking. She loves going places, being with people and playing with other dogs, is good in the car and sleeps through the night nicely. Young in age, though not size, we always knew that this teddy bear would be a very devoted love. She was given “a new chance” to have that life of love when her new family became devotedly in love with her too. Thank you so much for having room in your life for our special Juliette. Lily’s Tale Lily, about 40 lbs. is a 1-2 year old Irish Wolfhound mix. This happy, gentle girl who is absolutely beautiful, both inside and out, worked so hard to learn her commands. She is playful and friendly with everyone she meets and couldn’t wait to finally settle down in her own home. Well, it finally happened when her, now very own and very special family, including another dog and the sweetest boy with whom she bonded so well, adopted her. Lily is so blessed to be given “a new chance” and we thank her family for their boundless love! Molly’s Tale Molly, an 8 lb., 1-2 year old Beagle/Chi mix is about as sweet as they come. Given the choice, this angel would probably choose to sit in your lap and snuggle all day long. With her strong connection to people, she just loves everyone she meets, always bringing a big smile to their faces. This little sweetheart has now been lucky enough to be adopted by a loving couple who have given her “a new chance” to be doted on. We are all so happy for little Molly. Baxter’s Tale Baxter, a 22 lb., 6 month old, Boxer mix looks into your eyes with such affection, it just melts your heart. In fact, this doll baby stayed alive in the shelter long past the usual euthanization time because everyone fell in love with him. With his long and lanky legs, in his gangly, awkward stage, he is totally lovable. He enjoys playing with other dogs, but also likes his down time. Well, this angel did it again and now has a family, forever, that gives him lots of tender love to match that of what he gives. Given “a new chance,” Baxter has brought lots of joy to the great family that adopted him and just like him, we are so grateful to them for opening their hearts and home. Cleo’s Tale Cleo, a 6 month old, Aussie/Irish Setter mix is absolutely gorgeous. Her coat, really soft, is brown and black brindle with red highlights and her personality matches her good looks. At about 25 lbs. she loves everyone and everything. Really affectionate and sweet with people, Cleo also loves running around with other dogs. Overall, this sweetheart is a happy, friendly, playful girl who just loves belly rubs and wanted “a new chance” with a family that wanted to love a great dog. Well, how could that be resisted? Cleo, is now happily settled in her forever home bringing joy and happiness to her forever family. Penelope’s Tale February 25, 2012 Penelope, a beautiful Shepherd mix is an incredibly sweet and gentle 1 1/2 year old, medium sized girl. She has a quiet demeanor and though just a bit shy, she has really become increasingly social, genuinely devoted to her people (to whom she gives the sweetest little kisses) and is as cozy as they come. Penelope is always there to greet you when you come in, without jumping, and with lots of sweetness; she’s the kind of dog that you know genuinely loves her special folks. Penelope’s wonderful temperament is always on display and all this treasured girl needed was her permanent home and and she has now found it! Ensconced in a wonderful home with 2 other dogs to play with and room to run, Penelope finally has “a new chance.” Princess’ Tale February 23, 2012 Princess, at approximately 8 years old, came to us with eyes that she could barely open, (due to an ulcer and dryness), low protein and creatine levels, a growth in her bladder, an allergy to wheat and then a cold and cough. She was tired and sad and not well. Yet, from the beginning, this little 5 lb. doll was sweet as can be and everyone who met her fell in love. Well, week to week Princess’s health improved until this sweetheart showed us that she is a real spunky girl with a spring to her step. Her love for people and her delicious kisses were never ending and boy could she snuggle. As Princess regained her health she needed one more thing to ensure her place in life…a home where she knew she could stay forever. And then, one day it came…the call, the application, the meeting and the coolest family to reciprocate her love. Now, with two parents and two human siblings, she is snug in the softest pillow on the couch or in the arms of one of her new girls. And boy is she happy! Her family writes: ”She is delightful…we’re crazy about her…everybody (at the Vet’s) loved her.” There are no words to express how thankful we are to her family for giving Princess “a new chance,” so we’ll let the pictures describe the joy! Amelia’s Tale February 4, 2012 Amelia, an incredibly unique and exotic looking, 10 month old Wire-haired Pointing Griffon mix has had an amazing journey. Found on the streets in N. Carolina, Amelia was so weak, she couldn’t even lift her head. Fed properly in the shelter, she began to gain weight, only to be placed on the euthanization list because she was considered too scrawny to be adoptable. In the first 6 weeks after we brought her out of the shelter to safety, Amelia gained 15 lbs., almost doubling her weight. Chocolate brown in color, with silvery blue tinged highlights, she managed to keep loving people, and nudges her way in to any lap or petting and just melts in close to your body. Well, this sweet, sweet, girl was lucky enough to be adopted by a family just as sweet as her and now her days are comprised of long walks, time at the dog park and fun at the beach. Take a look at one of her earlier pictures and now look at her after she has been in her adoptive home for just a few months and join us in thanking her family for giving her “a new chance” at the most joyful and happy life. Charlie’s Tale January 29, 2012 Charlie, at 1 – 2 years old is a stunningly beautiful Golden Retriever who was a “stray” at a high kill shelter in N. Carolina on the list to be euthanized on Dec. 24, 2012. You see, Charlie couldn’t be placed on the Adoption Floor to be seen because he was deemed “too skinny” and they thought no one would want him. We found out about him on Dec. 23rd and had him pulled the very next day. We brought him here for foster care where Charlie showed that he was a real love who was already housebroken and who knew his basic commands. At our Adoption Event at Pet Pub in Bedford Hills, a very kind gentleman happened to see and talk to one of our volunteers. He and his family were not thinking of adopting a dog, but when he saw Charlie he decided to talk to his wife, fully expecting that she would be against it,especially because they had always had female dogs. Within hours the introduction was made and the entire family was smitten. They wrote “…we think he should…join our humble dog loving family. Charlie is here and I think enjoy(s) the attention without many canine friends about…is marvelous…right at home…he is simply awesome. God’s providence…What a wonderful mission, and a wonderful website.” Well, how lucky could a boy be? Thank you so much to Charlie’s new family for having so much love to give Charlie his new chance. Maggie’s Tale Sweet Maggie, the cutest 11/2 – 2 year old Papillon/Corgi mix, soft, fluffy and yummy, was brought to the Shelter as a stray, though it seemed that it was her owner surrendering her. We pulled her from a high kill shelter in N. Carolina and she was placed in foster care. Then, someone who had lost her own dog, and who thought she wasn’t ready to adopt yet, saw Maggie on our website. She fell in love and came to meet her. It was an instant connection. She said, “I never knew how I could love another dog after losing my own, but now I see…” A few days later she wrote, “…I want to thank you…for finding, rescuing and caring for Maggie/Honey (her new name). She is a fabulous dog; we have bonded, and I think she is adjusting to the city just fine. She is walking better on the leash each day, and responding to her name…Thanks again.” We always say…the greatest gift you can give to the memory of your beloved dog who has passed, is to save another. And so, we genuinely thank Maggie/Honey’s new Mom for opening her heart again and giving her a new chance. Fletch’s Tale January 25, 2012 Fletch, also known as “Belly,” because of his love for belly rubs is an absolutely darling, male terrier mix who came here when he was about 8 months old. Sweet and easy going, this guy is just an angel. He is fabulous for snuggling and just precious to watch, even if he’s just sleeping. This handsome guy with a naturally gentle temperament and love for people and other dogs, was more than ready for the steadfast and everlasting love and attention of a real home and boy, did he luck out. Within an hour of his adoption by his family, his new Mom was texting us…”Fletch is amazing and I’m madly in love with him!” Within a few days she followed up with… “I’m not sure I can put into words how blessed we feel to have found fletch!! I never thought I would feel THIS MUCH love for a dog again!!!” “Besides his good looks Gabby January 20, 2012 Gabby is an absolutely stunning 1 ½ year old Aussie mix who, with the most unique coloring and markings, certainly turns heads. She gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home and loves to play. She would enjoy a home with another dog and where she won’t be alone for long because she truly loves to be with people. Gabby is just sweet, sweet, sweet and loves everyone she meets. She is not easily scared and could go to a home with children because she has such an easygoing demeanor. She is housebroken, walks well on a leash, and knows sit, down, and paw. What more could you ask for? Bandit Bandit, a 7 month old male Schnauzer mix is goofy, playful, friendly and a guy who is always enthusiastic. Having come to us as a very rambunctious little guy, Navy Navy, an absolutely gorgeous, soft and fuzzy, adorable 5 month old, male Aussie mix is, to put it simply, just a fabulous puppy. He enthusiastically plays with other dogs, but also knows how to entertain himself with his toys. This love is also smart, smart, smart and has learned his commands quickly, showing incredible self control for a puppy and he is crate trained and housebroken, if kept on a schedule. Navy loves people, is sweet and affectionate, preciously cocks his head when you talk to him and handles himself well wherever he is. This little sweetheart deserves to have a permanent home of his own where he knows the pleasures of both the outdoor, and the indoor, life. Prince Prince, a 3-4 year old, male Schnauzer mix is a really handsome guy, when he gets decked out. He walks with a prance that is just adorable and is a pretty easygoing guy. He is a respectful, lower energy dog and could live in an apartment. While Prince doesn’t need to be with other dogs, he gets along with them and even shares his food. This sweet guy is very affectionate and can’t wait to go to his permanent home; he’s just hoping that his family will get him some coats, because right now he wears two of them at a time, brrr, it’s so cold.Prince is almost housebroken and will be a great pet. Lady Lady, a 1 1/2 – 2 year old, Aussie/GSD mix, is a real sweetheart. She sits immediately upon command, stays by your legs and likes to be close to you. She is a real people dog and if crated she rubs her nose raw trying to be free, not to escape somewhere, but to be near you. Lady is almost housebroken and while she has lots of energy to spare, she loves her ball and toys and so, has great potential to use this energy for lots of play. She comes when called, but needs to be taught to slow down her enthusiasm or she can knock you down, so she isn’t appropriate for young children. She likes chasing small animals outside and while not aggressive at all should’t go to a home with cats or other small animals. This girl really hungers for a forever home and people of her own. Ice January 19, 2012 Ice, a gorgeous, 4 year old, Australian Shepherd/Alaskan Husky mix is a dream come true. Not only is he amazing looking with his beautiful blue eyes, but this love also knows his basic commands, responds immediately and waits for the next. He is housebroken, walks easily on the leash, and enjoys being outside and playing ball. Ice loves jumping in the car and looking out the window during the ride. This quiet, calm and mellow sweetheart only barks/talks to say hi when you come home or to tell you that he needs to go out., but wherever you are, whatever room you’re in, he’ll be right there lying down. He is ever so gentle when taking food from you and is even good with cats as he wants to play with the cat in his foster home. Ice is a truly very precious dog, who just wants to please, show he’s a good boy and give lots of love. He definitely deserves lots of tender love and care in return. If you can provide that, then Ice might just be the guy for you. Ace Ace is a very sweet 1 year old Beagle/Basset mix who just loves to be with his people. When not doing this, you can also find him playing with toys or other dogs. Montana’s Tale Montana, about 10 months old and a Vizsla mix is an amazing beauty, both inside and out. She is warm and affectionate to every person and every dog who has come to her foster home and seems to be smiling all of the time. A real snuggler, Montana is an absolute pleasure to have around. A perfect lady, she is housebroken and knows her basic commands, but should not go to a home with cats or other small animals. This precious girl is indeed a true find for anyone looking for a lifetime friend. Is that you? Darrell December 21, 2011 Darrell, 6-8 months old, and an absolutely gorgeous male Spaniel mix, is incredibly agile, loves to romp, play tug of war, and even fetch. He enjoys playing with his toys and the other dogs in his foster home and with his perfect posing for pictures, definitely fancies himself a model. Darrell does gnaw on hands, can be snippy if upset, (so no young kids or alpha dogs), and occasionally steals food from places where he shouldn’t, even as he knows that he’s not supposed to. This incredibly beautiful puppy is very smart and is crate trained and housebroken, if kept on a schedule. Darrell already knows how to sit perfectly, is working on his other basic commands, and we’ve no doubt he will have them down pat very quickly. Darrell will really blossom in a home where he can be active. Now, can’t you see yourself playing or running with the sweetheart everyday? Sam’s Tale January 25, 2011 Sam a 2 year old gorgeous Shepherd/Golden mix, with long blonde fur is absolutely stunning and has a personality to match. After being abandoned, he came up on our Jan. 15, 2012 transport and we were struggling to find him a foster home. As we were unloading the dogs, one of our volunteers thought of friends who might be a good match to foster him. Incredibly kind as they are, early on that Sun. morning, they got out of bed and came when called to see Sam. We were delighted that they agreed to foster him until he could find a permanent home. He was finally on his way to a loving home. Well, it was only three days later when we received an e-mail “…My husband fell hook, line and sinker and Sam has won all of our hearts. He is so incredibly loving, and is very rapidly learning his manners. What a sweetheart… within hours of coming home, ‘ (we’ve already re-named him to Bodhi for Bodhi Satva..an enlightened being who is dedicated to enlightening all humans..I know, you must be laughing out loud! ). ” “Anyway, we are all happy as can be…I’ve been able to spend a lot of time with him these first few days and he has stolen my heart. He also passed the grandkid test with flying colors (4 of them live close by), he’s been very responsive to training and I think it’s a match made in heaven. We even had him out at Rye Beach today and he loved running with the other dogs (several of them were also rescued dogs) So yes, we are absolutely sure. (He also is remarkably similar in looks and temperament to our 2 previous dogs)” “I haven’t confirmed this …but I would certainly considering fostering again (I think we can do this)…” Well, can you imagine the life that Sam now has every single day? It is now us who are wondering about the mystical nature of dogs and their humans and who are smiling everytime we think of Sam. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Sam’s family for giving him his new chance and a great tale of success. |
